By buying our ingredients and supplies from like-minded companies, we can reduce our impact on the planet from the get-go. Local, organic and Salmon-Safe ingredients help us make sure that everything we make gets off to a good start.

Local Ingredients

80% of our beer ingredients are from local sources. To us, “local” is defined as coming within 400 miles of the point of production.

We work hard to create relationships with local suppliers and farmers to thoughtfully source ingredients and are proud that more than 80% of our ingredients travel no more than 200 miles to reach our Powell brewery site.

Our organic and conventional base barley is grown on a farm in Klamath Falls, Oregon, and our hops come from both the Yakima and Willamette Valleys, well within the 400-mile radius. In addition, our yeast is produced organically in Portland at Imperial Yeast.

This supports our local economy and saves fuel at the same time!

Our pubs source food from Mc Donald Wholesale in Eugene. We purchase local produce and proteins, and use Organic ingredients when possible.

USDA Organic Icon

Organics

27% of our beer ingredients are certified organic. Since 2002, the USDA Organic Certification has been a leading global force in defining the set of standards for producing organic food.

From farm to table, these standards look at soil and water quality, pest control, livestock practices, and rules for food additives.

Our current organic lineup consist of three year-round beers: Golden Hammer Helles Lager, Tree Frog Pale Ale and Beestly Porter; we also produce many organic seasonals throughout the year.

We just installed a second malt silo dedicated to Organic Pale Malt grown in Klamath Falls and all our organic hops come from the country’s largest organic hop grower, Roy Farms in Yakima.

Salmon Safe Icon

Salmon Safe

90% of the hops we use are certified Salmon-Safe.

Founded over a decade ago by the Pacific Rivers Council, Salmon-Safe concentrates on ensuring we have clean water—the main ingredient in beer—to support urban and agricultural watersheds. They work with farms and business developments to make certain on-site water is managed in a way that isn’t harmful for our native fish indicator species.

Salmon-Safe hops are a mainstay here at Hopworks, and our primary hop supplier, Roy Farms has dedicated their entire 6000-acre operation to Salmon-Safe certification. We buy directly from their 5th generation, B Corp farm and communicate regularly on new hop varieties and beer styles….over beer of course!
